Songwriting Habit: Facing your fears!!
What are you afraid of? What is holding you back? What are you resisting?
Scenario 1.
You have an idea, a melody or verse and you don’t know what to do next…you find it all overwhelming…
Solution:
Brainstorm all the next steps that you need to do to complete your song.
Break each step down in order.
Complete one step at a time. You will find that by completing one step is a huge way forward in finishing your song. Doing a small step is better than not doing anything.
Scenario 2.
You have finished your song but don’t think its good enough. ..Why?… How do you know that?…. Are you being too critical?…Are you really afraid of rejection??? And who cares what other people think…Why is what they say so important?? Do you really need others approval???
Solution:
Ask yourself if you enjoyed the process? What do you get from songwriting?
How about you send your song to a select few friends who you know will support you. Ask them to give you some constructive feedback….
Enter your song into a competition.
The key here is to get used to rejection. Not everyone is going to love the music you make. And that’s Ok, that’s reality. Keep writing, keep facing your fears and enjoy doing something that you love.
